Sibusiso was appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Dispatch in the Eastern Cape, the province’s biggest newspaper in 2016. He had moved from the coveted position of Sunday Times Political Editor and earlier Bureau Chief/Regional Editor for the Sunday Times in KwaZulu-Natal, after a successful career as a journalist for different newspapers. He started as a general reporter for the Sunday Tribune, in 2003.

With his colleague Fred Kockott, they were chosen as the first runners-up of the Taco Kuiper Investigative Journalism Awards in 2007 – for their exposé on corruption within the KZN government.

He then worked briefly for the Daily News as a political reporter before relocating to Cape Town, in 2007, to join Independent Newspapers’ Political Bureau as a Parliamentary/Political Correspondent – based in Parliament.

He was snapped up by the Sunday Times as a Senior Political Correspondent in 2010. He covered the 2013 Zimbabwe elections for all the newspaper titles within the Times Media Group and has travelled to other parts of Africa on assignments to cover SADC and African Union gatherings.

Phumza is a hard-working journalist who, as Digital Editor of DispatchLIVE – the Daily Dispatch’s online home, built the newspaper’s online audiences from close to non-existent in 2015. In that position, her responsibilities included managing the website, the newspaper’s Facebook page, Twitter account, YouTube channel and other social media pages as well as editing all content published on those platforms, including videos.

She had moved from the Features Editor position and has been News Editor, Chief Sub-editor and Senior Sub-editor at the same newspaper.

She started as a general reporter for the Sowetan in Johannesburg in 2004, when she was soon tasked with writing a weekly column on consumer issues. She then moved to the South African Press Association (SAPA) in 2005, the only national newswire at the time. It was at SAPA where she was entrusted with reporting on national political events and later moved to news editing and subbing editing.

She was poached by City Press to head their Eastern Cape bureau in 2007. She was responsible for all stories from the province, before joining the Daily Dispatch as a Senior Sub-editor in 2010.
